Have you heard of Coursera?

Have you heard about Coursera?
Do you know what it is?
Have you done anything with them?

For those of you who haven't heard of them
they are an online company that has joined with universities and organisations
from around the world to provide free short courses online to anyone.

You get to sign up for a course,
along with thousands of other students around the world,
watch the lectures, read the articles, do the quizzes, write essays
and take part in very active forums.

There are a very wide range of courses that you can do,
I am doing one about archaeology,
and I know I will do another course when this be is finished.
I just have to pick which subject I'm interested in next.

  1. Sounds cool!

Do you get college credit for this? or is it just for your own knowledge and fun?

    Visiting from UBC

  2. Oh it's just for fun.....with so many people doing each course it would be impossible to mark, especially as the course is free

  3. You can get accreditation for some courses. They are marked/examined. Udacity has a peer review system and Coursera has a more relaxed time table and computer scored. You can google the differences. You can pay to sit a supervised exam for some. A lot of recruiters, in computing specifically, are now recruiting directly from Coursera to get access to highly motivated people ASAP.
